The Dorval Crest
The Story Behind the Dorval Crest
The emblem of Dorval Estate Winery—a graceful woman with grapevines woven through her hair—is more than a symbol; it’s a reflection of our roots, both personal and ancestral.
The name Dorval traces back to our family’s heritage in Dorval, Canada, one of the oldest settlements in North America, where old-world values met the spirit of a new frontier. That same spirit lives on in our vineyards today—resilient, intentional, and grounded in tradition.
The woman in our crest is inspired by Rebecca, co-founder of the winery, and a quiet force behind every vine we plant and every vintage we release. Her Latin heritage, nurturing presence, and strength as a mother and partner embody the essence of the land we farm: generous, enduring, and deeply expressive.
Historically, the image of a woman adorned with vines speaks to the ancient role of women as caretakers of the harvest—symbols of fertility, balance, and wisdom. Across cultures, they’ve represented the bond between nature and civilization. Our logo brings that timeless symbolism into the present, celebrating the influence of women in winemaking, family, and life.
Beneath her profile sits the Kerr family motto: Sero Sed Serio—“Late but in earnest.” Passed down through generations, it’s a reminder that greatness takes time, whether in wine or in life. It honors patience, depth, and the intention we bring to every bottle.
Together, the name Dorval, the Latin motto, and the vine-crowned muse form the heart of who we are: a family rooted in heritage, shaped by the land, and inspired by the quiet strength of the ones who tend it.
